LC America's Sweetheart Capris
Springtime in Nashville, 1967. She was singing that day at the Ryman (before it was redone). Scent of honeysuckle outside.
I can still feel it: her voice cutting clear through those parts of me that didn’t yet understand the soul in country music.
She wore a relaxed, feminine plaid shirt like this one. Didn’t like to look like she was trying too hard (no shoes, either).
Last year, at a little estate sale in Hillsboro, I saw this and remembered. (Luckily, the hipsters there were more interested in the locally sourced burritos.)
What do you remember about that spring?
