Thousand And One Nights Dress
A Thousand and One Nights.
If you need further proof of the depths to which a man’s insecurity can result in absurd behavior look no further than the tale of Scheherazade.
Upon finding out his wife was unfaithful, the king took a new wife each day, the previous one dispatched (murdered), thus eliminating any chance of infidelity. Turns out, hell hath no fury like a king scorned.
Scheherazade volunteered to heal the king’s delicate heart by telling him a story. However, she withheld the climax just as the sun rose. The king kept her alive for one more day so that he could hear the story’s end. This went on for days, nights, and one wondrous and different story after another. After a thousand and one nights Scheherazade had no other tales to tell, but by that time the king had fallen in love.
I have no idea if Scheherazade regretted her approach (the king sounds a little high-maintenance to me), but it’s true that one can never underestimate the power of keeping a king on their toes.
