LC Mod T-Neck Dress

No. 4424

Black Navy

GIFT BOX: (Add $6 dollars).
Op and Pop.

Carnaby Street, London. 1966.

Swinging to the fullest.

Who do we owe for this?

Women, of course.

Sure, the boys were out there too. Michael Caine and Terence Stamp. The Stones and The Who. Good Ol’ Arnold. Well dressed Neanderthals. Sure, sure. Fine. However…

We owe it to Jean Shrimpton, Diana Vreeland (to my knowledge the first to use the term “swinging” in association with London), Mary Quant and Twiggy. Many others too. But it was intellectual writer, artist and Manhattanite Piri Halasz who made it cool to everyone, everywhere, with her Time cover story.

During an era when most women were not allowed to write for Time it was her piece that catapulted London, its fashion and its counter-culture, into the global lexicon. If you read the article you understand the why of it all. Why snooty London let the kids run things for a bit.

Back then the discotheques were heavily mirrored so the boys and dolly birds could “see what a good time they were having” in their fabulous new gear (clothes). Gear like this T-Neck dress in the classic '60s shift style.

Now go see what a good time you’re having.
