LC Bali Ikat Dress
(Are there any other kind?)
Lombok. February. I’m drinking coconut juice beneath a thatched-roof, open-air pavilion, trying to revel in anonymity-but really feeling a bit blue.
That’s when I spot her.
“JP!” It’s Sora, gorgeous in a faintly exotic Ikat shift dress and shorter haircut.
Instantly it escapes me that I wanted to be alone.
Sora and I ran with the same group of diplomats years ago in Paris. Now, she’s trade minister in Indonesia (rose to prominence in Bali), a pedigreed woman who still lets her emotions bubble forth charmingly.
She’s halfway through her fresh pineapple juice and story about hiking Mount Rinjani when I interrupt gently.
“Sora, I’m glad I ran into you.”
She smiles. “Unexpected pleasures are the best, aren’t they?"
