“Adding sound to movies would be like putting lipstick on the Venus de Milo.”

–Mary Pickford, circa 1925

She’s the queen of the silent era.

When the talkies finally arrive, she moves on to launching United Artists with a couple close friends.

She’s the first to reside permanently in Grauman’s cement.

When did the red carpet become a fashion show?

1929, led boldly by her.

I didn’t design this dress for blending in or submission to generalities of the beautiful female body. It shows the curves in the right places. This is for the woman who is not afraid of the limelight (and the applause of course).

With the cummerbund and polka dots, it’s also unique. I imagine she would’ve worn this dress (and revolutionized fashion as well).

Cummerbund Dress (No. 3754). Soft polyester jersey cloth with tricot lining. Crossover v-neckline. Pleating at bust. Ruched waistband. Shirring along wearer’s left waist. Three-quarter length kimono sleeves. Mid-calf length. Imported.
