LC Mrs. Jones Lattice Yoke Blouse
She didn’t mind that we stared.
I’m sure she found such innocent admiration harmless.
But even at twelve, I understood that authoritatively seductive and disarmingly feminine were not easy to pull off. To dominate or be dominated. It was all up to her.
It started with the unreasonable length of her neck and almost preternatural posture. Statuesque doesn’t begin to describe it. She wore things that followed the contours of her shoulders, waist and chest. Corset-like. And I’d never seen a woman wear a collar like that. It reminded me of something a queen would wear. Or the headmistress at some finishing school; all the younger girls jealous of their teacher because, well, they were not their teacher. She wore a tie as well. But even that managed to be uniquely feminine.
Yes, Mrs. Jones.
