Men at Work.

There is a certain level of responsibility that comes with a vest like this. To appreciate the provenance, look no further than men like Casey Jones and William Fuller. Men who worked the rail during its boom and wore the famous blue and white ticking known as hickory stripe.

Engineers like Jones, who once leaned over the front of a barreling locomotive to pull a child off the tracks, wore it on caps, jackets, and overalls.

The form-fitting conductor vest, with its hip patch pockets and watch chain hole, is something William Fuller might have donned when his locomotive General was stolen by Union raiders. The determined conductor pursued on foot, by handcar, and in the commandeered locomotives Yonah and William R. Smith, and even took charge of a south bound train and drove it backwards in pursuit.

When you saw this vest, something dashingly gritty got stirred up, the kind of American spirit that got us from here, to there, and back again.

The Conductor’s Vest (No. 5642). 100% cotton denim. Classic blue and white hickory stripe. Five mahogany colored buttons. Flat-felled seams. Three patch pockets at front. Adjustable back belt. Watch chain buttonhole.Imported.
