Certain Liberties.

By the time Julius Caesar led his army across the sea from Gaul to Britain in 55 B.C., the Britons already had a thriving wool industry.

Flash forward to the late 1800s, and discerning men would choose from three acceptable wool overcoats to wear to a formal event. First on the list?

The Inverness coat.

The best wool. A classic coat design.

You see where we’re going with this.

The Inverness Caped Coat (No. 5460). Updated for this century. We shortened it to the knee to make it easier for you to navigate your country walks and serious talks. The cape is longer and, in our opinion, more striking. In a coat like this, others may suspect you have a stash of passports under a floorboard or certain government clearances off-limits to most.

Let them wonder.

Made of 100% English wool. Leather-wrapped shank buttons. Fully lined in green taffeta. Removable, lined self-fabric cape that attaches at neck with three leather buttons. Two welt pockets at hip and two inside besom pockets with tab and button closure. Center back vent. Imported.
