A Cut Above.

The English have a habit of reinvention. Recently, an Englishman reinvented the wheel. Literally. So, it is by no coincidence that our travels through Savile Row resulted in the discovery of another reinvention— English corduroy.

Worn by factory workers and farmers for its durability, corduroy construction, in operation, resisted tearing but did not allow for contour fits. Suits were out. Besides, there was this delicate issue of social status. That was before ultra-fine wale.

From a distance, they will all wonder if you’re wearing a luxurious velvet three-piece. 21-wale corduroy has that richness, that sheen, but can be cut and manipulated for a better fit. It’s also less encumbered than velvet. Lighter too.

A century ago: Englishmen wore corduroy to work the factory.

In this, you’ll appear to own it.

The Fine-Wale Suit Jacket (No. 5454). 100% cotton, 21-wale corduroy made by our Italian corduroy merchant, Duca Visconti. In true bespoke fashion, the body is half-lined in blue and white pinstripe and sleeves are lined in a staggered blue and red pinstripe. Two navy marble buttons at center front and four functional buttons at sleeve. Angled pocket at left chest, lower welt pocket with flap at each side, three interior pockets in a contrasting striped fabric that matches the lining. Front fitted waist darts. Double back vent. As a suit, it’s smashing. Worn with jeans, you reinvent business casual. Imported.

Pair with The Fine-Wale Vest (No. 5471). and The Fine-Wale Pant (No. 5463).
