LC Sam Rice Sweater
—Sam Rice, 1925
This V-neck pullover is so comfortable you may think it’s a mystery.
I could say more, but I think Sam Rice did it best in the 1925 World Series when he went up over that fence to catch that fly ball. Umpire called it an out and that was that. For decades, that was all Sam would say, “Umpire called it an out.” On and on, the press hounded him with money offers if he would just talk.
It wasn’t until 1974, when the world was presented with his handwritten letter that was to be read only after his death, that the mystery was solved.
“At no time did I lose possession of the ball.”
