Cotton Flannel Shirt
At my local marina, everyone knows Ned. He’s usually found in the office giving his advice on everything from proper hull paint selection to who’s going to win the World Series.
In the late fall (when only the most serious of boatmen are still around) you might be lucky enough to catch Ned on his 1948 wooden yawl. You can’t miss him; polished work boots, faded khakis and the same flannel plaid shirt, May to December. The most I’ve ever seen him “dress up” is to throw on a tweed blazer for the marina Christmas party.
You won’t find Ned listed in the Club directory, and he’s never held a position on the board. Still, it’s generally known you don’t get a slip here without Ned’s approval… it’s understood.
