Waxed-Canvas Short Trench
You eschewed the almanac and took the weatherman’s proclamation that the storm would diverge, missing Terrapin Ridge. Thus, you let Waldo and Jefferson stay out in the field.
The unmistakable sound of an angry gust crashes into the side of the craftsman like a thirty-foot wave. Only men of the highs seas, schooled in the art of williwaws, know the power of gusts like this. Then comes the kind of beastly, anti-gravity rain that seems to originate from all angles and exploits the tiniest of breaches. Thankfully, folks in the United Kingdom are used to these things and helped us construct a waxed-cotton jacket up to the task.
You curse the weatherman as you snap the throatlatch and secure the cape snaps. But secretly, from somewhere deep inside, an impish grin curls your lips. You throw the door open and the wind howls like an angry mob.
