French Herdsman's Knife

No. 3165

French Herdsman’s Pocket Knife.

They built a town around this knife.

Laguiole, in southern France.

Unique design originated 1829, engineered to last a lifetime. Made exclusively by Societé Laguiole. (One craftsman, one knife.) Handforged stainless steel blade. Solid brass endcaps. Palisandre wood handle. With awl for poking holes in things (sometimes necessary), corkscrew added in 1880 when bottled wine became popular.

The last time you saw this knife, Yves Montand carved up an apple while Gerard Depardieu sweated in Manon of the Spring.

Streamlined. Efficient. A little masterpiece. About 4-1/2” closed.

French Herdsman’s Knife (No. 3165).

(A rather splendid gift.)
