
Certain cabins on British steamship company Peninsular and Oriental’s ships were reserved for the wealthiest passengers, and their tickets were stamped POSH to show their status.
It stood for “Port Out, Starboard Home.” From England to India, the desired cabin on the port side on the outward trip, and on the starboard side on the return trip.
This is how the word POSH became posh.
I don’t know if that’s true, but I do know this superbly cut vintage blazer helped posh carry on.
