In the valley of the Atlas Mountains, where David Lean trained his camera on Peter O’Toole for “Lawrence of Arabia,” I train my sights on the exotic age-old patterns that women have worn for centuries.>
(And somehow wound up in exclusive boutiques at exorbitant prices all over the world.)
Secured all of it before the caravan of shoppers from the area’s five star hotels pulled in.
Exotic Floral Pants (No. 2941). Recreated in 100% flowing soft cotton in easy pull-on pants. Contrasting woven black elastic waistband. Black-and-white knit belt at waist.
May put you in the mood for the hamman, a Moroccan staple where you’ll be scrubbed head to toe with black mud, wrapped with seaweed resulting in a relaxing, floating experience.
Should it not be your thing, these pants have the same effect.
Women’s sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL.
Color: Slate, Teal, and Coral with a Black Leaf Print.
July 18th.
Torremolinos, Spain.
Hot, but not exotic enough. I grab the next hydro-boat (not an easy ride I must admit) and head south to Morocco.
Still searching.
Yes, Ouarzazate will be my arena.
The Berber translation of the name, “without confusion,” is confusing because there is nothing but confusion as I negotiate its winding streets in search of the perfect summer top for your exotic floral pants.
In order to refuel, I head for the Berbere Palace Hotel for refreshments and find a small, extremely upscale boutique where this blouse reinforced Ouarzazate reputation as the Beverly Hills of the Desert.
Without Confusion Top (No. 3679). I’ve recreated it in a silky feeling polyester. Slightly draped cowl neckline and soft shirring at the shoulders gives this a casual look with a slightly dressier vibe.
Women’s sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL.
Color: Black.
