This beautifully made tool has been completely restored and is in perfect working order. Originally designed to clamp onto the edge of a barrel or tub. The bottle is then placed upside down over the top and as it is pushed down it depresses the brass sheath that protects the brushes which then open up inside the bottle. The handle is then turned which draws up water from the barrel right to the top of the brushes inside the bottle.
You only need a barrel or tub filled with water and a small length of rubber tube to return the used water to the barrel. Solid cast iron with heavy duty gears, wooden handle, and brass shaft and bowl. It is embossed with the model name LA MODERNE, No 1, DEPOSE (registered, trademark). From the Languedoc region of southern France. Ca. 1920.
Vintage Wine Bottle Washer (No. C231). Dimensions: 31" long x 14.5"W including handle. Shipping: $20.
