This is an authentic Marty 1941 Mobile telephone. "Mobile" in this case means not wall mounted. The item was manufactured in 1941 and is one of 50,000 produced. The plaque mounted on the front reads as follows: PROPRIETE de L'ETAT/ Marche Mobile Pour Combine/ 309-6 ter 1941 No.765/ E PLAZOLLES/ 8-10 Rue Diderot a BAGNOLET (Seine) It has dovetail wood construction with a French cradle handset, brass phone with comfort grip handle, and hand crank. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal the original works: coil, group switch, and magneto. The unit has an additional "watch" receiver mounted in the rear for use in a noisy environment or by another person.
