Antique black enamel cast iron French stove, a rare front loading model in an enamel color seldom seen in antique stoves. Stoves such as this one exhibit high quality casting, artistry in design, and remarkable enamel work. Most have been cast in foundries centered in the Ardennes region of France, the probable source for this stove. It features a flip-up lid revealing a large hot plate; two doors for front loading; original grate; original pull-out ash pan; mica windows (mica is a Plexiglas like mineral used in stove windows because it is transparent, withstands high temperatures to around 600 degrees, and is flexible so it can be used for curved windows). With a lit candle it makes an extraordinary piece that illustrates the craftsmanship and beautiful design of this antique French stove.
