Last Chance Dept.
No one could figure out if Ben Franklin was behind the times or ahead of them.
We do know he had a lot of sex.
We know at sixteen he wrote a humorous and feminist column under the female pseudonym Silence Dogood.
We know he was a fashion icon in France.
And we know he invented the lightning rod and bifocal glasses.
Was he a brilliant yet morally lapsed scoundrel or a brilliant, modern man unwilling to conform? 300 years later, we still don’t know.
We should all be so lucky to carry undefinable mystery that long.
Perhaps we should look at his propensity to wear sport coats at mid-thigh length.
