Clam shell-shaped threshing basket from the mountainous region of Savoie, used for separating the wheat from the chaff. Designed for two farmers to thresh or one very large Frenchman. Made of osier reed (willow). Very rare. Initials GCJ are burnt into the inside and carved on the bottom. Ca. 1900.
