Named of course for the famous nurse, a national heroine during the Crimean War, who was born in Florence, Italy, in 1820. By the time she died in 1910 she had reformed the British nursing service, and caused thousands of little girls to be christened Florence in her honor. There is a Florence Pub on Florence Street, London, N1. This sign comes from a pub opposite Leeds General Infirmary in West Yorkshire.
