Ceramic refractory pan would have been used on the stove top, oven, or fireplace grate. A pole would have been inserted in the hollow handle to push it into the heat. Has a charming patina and the beautiful glaze typical of southern France. Cassoulet anyone? Montaubon, France, late 19th century.
