Rotten Row Blazer

I wore this blazer when I arrived at Brown’s. My riding boots, however, had been sent before me.

No time for jet lag or tepid cultural immersion, I pick up my heels and leave for Hyde Park.

Thirty minutes later, I’m cantering down the sandy bridleway of Rotten Row (corruption of Route de Roi). The very place where a young Prince Edward (VII) first observed Lily Langtry riding sidesaddle.

The Serpentine still echoes with Edwardian splendor.

Afterwards, I wear my blazer to lunch at the St. James Club, then again for dinner at the Cheshire Cheese.
