Last Chance Dept.
Fair Harbor, Fire Island, New York.
The last ferry carrying the last of the renters is slowly pulling out into the Great South Bay.
Even the seagulls seem thrilled.
(Not to mention the Siegals in the house next door.)
One of those magical fall weekends when you have the Island all to yourself.
I’m standing on a deck at sunset, having a conversation with a friend who said someone called her "slinky," and she wanted to know if it was a compliment.
Did she say, I asked, "You slink around?"
She laughed and said no.
I asked her if she was wearing the silky, slinky sweater she had on.
"How did you guess?"
Wasn’t long before I was slinking over to my drawing board and had a name for this sweater that she was kind enough to let me meticulously duplicate for you.
Slinky Fire Island Striped Sweater (No. 2775). Smooth, long and sleek tunic-length lines are the epitome of slinky. Especially in a substantial 7-gauge knit silk. Seven contrasting stripes at chest and five at sleeves. 3/4 length sleeves. Mock turtleneck. Looks great with jeans, or leggings and boots.
You'll be slinky. Get used to it.
