Antique French counter scale utilizes the Reberval system, an equal arm beam with the pans above the beam, stabilized by a leg and a stay underneath the beam, thus preventing the pans from tipping as they move up and down. Two dolphin pointers indicate the balance and the cast iron structure is supported by four cast figures. The square cast weight plate is fixed; the brass load plate is removable. Designed to weigh up to 10 kilograms. France, Ca. 1890.
