Peugeot were the most prolific makers of mechanical kitchen equipment, including their famous coffee mills, and of course went on to make automobiles. This is a fully functioning coffee grinder in excellent working condition, even retaining its clip for adjusting the grind. This is heavy weight, solid cast iron mounted on wood with wood handle and wooden drawer to catch the grinds. The hopper is topped with a brass lid. It is embossed with PEUGEOT FRERES, as well as BREVETES S.G.D.G. (patented, sans garantie du government, i.e., without government guarantee, a legal mention freeing the state from any responsibility for the proper functioning of the device). France, Ca. 1890.
