The '60s.

1969. London.

He’s walking next to her on Piccadilly Circus, admiring her double-breasted long tweed coat blowing in the cold wind. In the recesses of his mind, he can’t help but think it looks familiar somehow.

The 60s were about changing things, making them your own. Experimenting with the conventional and exhibiting a healthy disrespect of experts and authority.

The idea of the Maxi style started as a sentiment, really, that fed this emotional rebellion. It then turned into a style. Longer was unusual. More interesting. European. Exciting.

Finally, it became this coat.

Parisian Maxi Coat (No. 3746). Vintage double-breasted design with six-button front. Pure soft wool fabric with herringbone pattern. Collar with rounded points. Fully-lined in black silky rayon. Angled flap welted pockets at hips. Long sleeves. Lower calf length. Princess lines. Long center back vent. Imported.

nice idea, mediocre execution
I bought this in size 14, which is the same size as several items I have from Peterman. This coat is very big. I suppose the logic is that you'll need to layer under it because it's so light, but that reduces the flattering potential of the structure of the coat. The length does really help keep my legs warm when I wear skirts. I moved the buttons so it would close more snugly, but I may have it tailored to fit more precisely.

So very disappointing!
I've been admiring this coat for a couple of seasons and decided to buy it for myself this year. At 6ft tall, it's hard to find a coat that is nice and long. This coat is definitely long enough, but the fabric is so lightweight and looks cheap. Not at all what I expected. It's made in China, but the workmanship looked's the fabric that is such a let-down. The guys get the herringbone caped coat with tweed from Ireland, time for the girls to get a really well made wool coat that lives up to the tradition of elegance written about in the catalogue. And you just don't get that with cheap looking fabric. The size 10 is about two sizes larger than you would expect for a coat.

This coat appatrntly runs VERY large.I had to exchange a size 12 - my normal size - for a ten, which was also too big. I am hopeful that an 8 will fit, as it is a beautiful coat and very stylish.

I love this coat and get a lot of looks and compliments on it. It is lightweight but warm for its weight. Fits well over a suit. Well proportioned for a tall person and accommodates a long stride.

This is barely a coat more like a blazer. the fabric is very thin and loosely woven.

I adore this coat.
I bought this last spring and was disappointed that winter didnt hang on a while longer. This coat is beautiful and really flatters a womans figure giving her a long, lean look. It also keeps me warm. If my size changed, I would buy it again!
