The air in Daytona Beach in March is unique
to me. To some, it’s the smell of shrimp brine and
oysters. Others will say fresh, salty ocean and wet
sand. Still others remember daffodils and pink
gerbera daisies.
To me, it’s old leather, fresh-cut grass, and baseball tar for bats. My most productive year at the plate was ’63; batted .302 for the season.
Manny Sanguillen used to a wear a sweater at training camp that I remember like it was yesterday. It was a football sweater, actually.
There are clothes you train in and others you wear to focus your mind. I don’t know if it was him or the sweater, or him in the sweater.
This classic is the perfect weight to complement a focused mind, regardless of the day’s challenges.
