French Herdsman's Pocket Knife.

French Herdsman's Pocket Knife

They built a town around this knife.

Laguiole, in southern France.

French Herdsman's Knife

Unique design originated 1829, engineered to last a lifetime. Made exclusively by R. Chazeau. (One craftsman, one knife). Handforged stainless steel blade. Solid brass endcaps. Palisandre wood handle. With awl for poking holes in things (sometimes necessary), corkscrew added in 1880 when bottled wine became popular.

The last time you saw this knife, Yves Montand carved up an apple while Gerard Depardieu sweated in Manon of the Spring.

Streamlined. Efficient. A little masterpiece. About 4-1/2” closed.

French Herdsman's Knife (No. 3165), with plastic sheath.

(A rather splendid gift.)
