The Kipling Blazer.

‘“It was Din! Din! You may talk o’ gin and beer, When you’re quartered safe out ‘ere, You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din!”

It was my somewhat bombastic Irish musician friend singing his favorite poem over the din at the Atlantic Bar just off Savile Row. All I had asked him was to tell me about the jacket I was admiring since he walked in.

He said, “That’s what I was doing.”

To make a long poem short, Harrison got the jacket from a friend as a gift during their Bangladesh concert.

Who in turn got it from an American student, who nicked it from his great uncle, who got it from Cary Grant after they finished shooting Gunga Din.

“How I got it,” he said, “is another story.”

I ordered another round of Jameson’s. It is after all times like this that whiskey is distilled for.

The Kipling Blazer (No. 2594). We duplicated this vintage British Military Blazer for you in Portugal. In a tough but comfortable, cotton canvas. Metal, silver oxide buttons (detachable and held in place by split metal rings). Rounded and pleated button-through flap pockets. Button-down shoulder epaulette. Center back vent. Pieced and folded cuffs. Wear casually with jeans. Outstanding with dark gabardine slacks and a tie. Gives a man authority and the kind of handsomeness that belongs on a coin. Or in a movie. Imported.

But I want to wear rank insignia
This wonderful jacket mirrors my army officer uniform worn 45 years ago. I wish I could pin on and wear my now old captain bars but my wife says no. Yesterday someone saluted the jacket which was well deserved.

Elegance eternal
This vintage item is absolute elegance - it is practical, yet above anything flashy and kitsch as we see a lot nowadays - reminds one of the great characters in cinema. A must for romantics, echoing elegance from the Golden Age of style. Three cheers for J Peterman for his accurate eye and search for such aesthetics almost obsolete in our age.
