Last Chance Dept.
Here’s a seersucker collection to complement your summer entertaining schedule. But first, a few important details we must get right.
Food and beverage. Obviously a must. And never a shortage of either. Follow the rule of three as a standard minimum—three types of dessert. Three types of pickled food. Three types of fried food (make sure to have some comeback sauce). Three types of cocktail. Lime sorbet margaritas are a nice reprieve from the sweltering summer heat. And lots of iced sweet tea.
White paper fans help with the heat and humidity but try to schedule your soiree in a month other than August. Air thick enough to slice with a butter knife is not ideal for having a good time.
Antique linens and lace can make the most weathered outdoor furniture come to life.
Always have fresh flowers. Always. Everywhere.
Did I say iced sweet tea?
Activities include horseshoes, croquet, hay rides and a tire swing hanging from a weeping willow or 100-year-old oak.
Tea lights in mason jars are nice when the sun goes down.
Have at least 3 to 5 good storytellers mingling about. They keep the energy going.
A bluegrass band is a solid choice for entertainment.
I mentioned iced sweet tea, right?
Now bless your heart this sounds like a nice little shindig you’ve put together.
