Last Chance Dept.
I was 25, living in Lincoln Park, pining for things I couldn’t afford.
Each hot summer morning on my walk to the L train, sweating in my suit and tie, I passed this tiny boutique on Clark Street, three blocks south of Belmont. It was a glorious men’s shop, 14-foot glass front, European dark mahogany wood trim and brass fixtures.
Behind that hand-crafted glass, these Italian summer pants sat atop a Chippendale hanger, surrounded by ever changing Italian accessories and apparel.
In the evenings, I would go inside. I’d imagine how little I would sweat in these, yet frustrated that these old people (had to be in their 50s) were buying this stuff I just couldn’t afford. Why waste such classic vintage style on the old, I thought.
Well, now, I know.
Enjoy these. We earned it.
