Mardi Gras in Binche.

Ana was a Portuguese grad student studying Romanesque architecture, living in Belgium.

We were neighbors. I’d seen her often, wearing her trademark damask blazer in a delicate but lively pattern. We met the night of the Carnival of Binche, when I watched her catch a piece of fruit launched vigorously at her window by a Gille.

“Good catch,” I said.

“Obrigado,” she replied, and asked me in for a Leffe.

A week later she was gone. I still remember her smile, her wavy hair, the tiny gap between her teeth. How vibrant she looked in that colorful little jacket.

I told her to look me up someday. I made this blazer for her, just in case she didn’t know I still think of her.

Ana’s Mardi Gras Blazer (No. 4209). 100% cotton dobby. Fully lined. Waist shaping darts. 3 1/4” facing cuffs. Black metal button at center front. Black cotton trim at neck and pocket welt. Shoulder pads. Imported.

One-of-a-Kind, Beautiful Construction, Classy
Wow! What a great find. I've never bought a colorful blazer with so many possibilities. Shoes can also pick up a color in the blazer. Fits true to size. However, note that I have a larger bust than many other Peterman size 6's but this one still fits. For sure, it can't handle a bulky shirt for me but a thin silk or cami is fine. Note that the picture does NOT show that the cuffs can be turned up-there is a split turn. This is an advantage because I have short arms. With the cuffs turned up (no lining showing), it fits perfectly. I wore this blazer with black dress trousers with a black cami and pumps to a party and many compliments-looked better than 100% of the people there. So expect head turns. Great for this fall weather too.

Piège à mouches parfait
One day left en Bruges. He scanned the fruit carts, passing my window as he did most days. An American. White-soled topsiders gave him away. A persimmon! Jean, the fruit monger is a prick. Caught it with grace, thank God. Topsiders and all, he said he was Canadian, they all do. I brought him in for a Leffe, the dark. With my smart Mardi Gras blazer, the so-called canuck was none the wiser. My fly was Canadian, I was, Portuguese. His Iberian au revoir, narrative crafted by my colorful blazer, was the perfect prelude to my holiday's end. Back to San Tropez et ma drole vie royale. Merci J Peterman.

Unique & stylish
Great blazer for summer, bought for office wear but versatile fabric can be dressed down for play, print is less vibrant than in picture, which I liked about it, true to size, fitted. I am short so the turned back cuffs don't work for me, will get sleeves shortened as usually happens with me.
