America’s Sweetheart.

Springtime in Nashville, 1967. She was singing that day at the Ryman (before it was redone). Scent of honeysuckle outside.

I can still feel it: her voice cutting clear through those parts of me that didn’t yet understand the soul in country music.

She wore a relaxed, feminine plaid shirt like this one. Didn’t like to look like she was trying too hard (no shoes, either).

Last year, at a little estate sale in Hillsboro, I saw this and remembered. (Luckily, the hipsters there were more interested in the locally sourced burritos.)

What do you remember about that spring?

America’s Sweetheart Capris (No. 4245). Breezy. Just the thing for sticky Nashville nights. 100% cotton (enzyme and stone washed for softness). 100% cotton sheeting at waistband facing. Zip fly (antique brass) and waist darts. Front slant pockets. Faux horn buttons at center front and back pockets. Imported.

Women’s sizes: 0 through 20.

Length of inseam is 24 ½".

Colors: Cream, Navy.

Care Instructions: Machine Washable.

LOVE THESE SLACKS
I bought several pair of these slacks last year and now this year. I love them as they are lightweight and comfortable. Be aware that they run a bit large. While I take a size 4, I found that a size 2 is perfect for me. Also, I love that there are belt loops so that the slacks seem to fit better. I also like that they sit at the waist as I find that anything below the waist is uncomfortable.
