A Night Off the Town.

Your busy November social schedule is interrupted by an arctic slap of cool wind. The mercury plummets.

The TV weatherman (alternately goofy and grave) warns that you may have cool nights for days.

A blue-green crackle from a driftwood fire.

Two unexploded bottles of cider retrieved from the root cellar.

You can hear each other think again.

Victorian Nightgown (No. 4003). Found in London, a charming (and undemanding) alternative to today’s heavy-breathing intimate wear. Pure cotton cambric with lacy crocheted ruffles at collar, cuffs, and down jabot-like front. Four hidden buttons. Lots of tiny gathers at shoulders.

Even if you don’t happen to get snowed in, I’m sure you can think of some other excuse. Imported.

Women’s sizes: XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL.

Color: Vintage White.

Too short in sleeve with no solution
I was so excited about requesting this gown as a Christmas present....but the sleeves are too short and the band at the wrist...which is half up my forearm, has no elastic or opening to ease the fit. They are stuck at an awkward length and it pulls in the shoulder when move your arms across your body. Can't sleep like that. Spent money altering the sleeves by putting elastic in.

This Nightgown is Amazing
Very nice quality gown featuring a substantial cotton fabric, heavy cotton lace and good workmanship , this nightgown is a keeper. The styling is very authentic and a few buttons on the bodice can be undone to make it slightly less demure. Like many Peterman nightgowns, this one is generously sized. I'm a Size 8 dress and the small was perfect and still roomy. This is warm without being hot and is lovely all around. All the Victorian romance without the worry of wearing an actual antique gown.

The most wonderful nightgown in the world
I love this nightgown! I save it for wearing after a luxurious bubble bathI feel so sybaritic when I flounce around in this gown. I get it drycleaned so the ruffles are perfect and then put it in the dryer to fluff and it is just perfect!

waiting for improved version
i was so excited when it arrived- the crisp fabric, the generous lace trimming and the special style. maybe I'm the only one who doesn't want to have to iron my nightwear, but if its not ironed, it just looks really wrinkled. and my other issue is with the lace trimmed sleeves: theres no button to adjust the width of the wrist area- and the sleeves are exactly the wrong length: i would tuck the lengthy lace bottom of the sleeve inside the sleeve otherwise, i couldn't make a cup of coffee without the sleeves tasting it too.

I have (and wear) some vintage victorian gowns. I finally found the perfect winter robe as feminine as the gowns (but warm). I immediately came here to J P's where the exquisite can be found. This gown even has covered buttons just like the victorian's do. The lace is not handmade of course but is substantial and covers the hand daintily. It may not seem to be sexy but it is extremely feminine. Innocence has its appeal and so does warmth. This is perfect for all year round.

Wish I could buy a dozen!
I love feminine white nightgowns which are not so easy to, when I saw this one....I ordered it very quickly....the trim is rich and plentiful and its 5'9 this gown drops just above my ankle.....but I am exchanging the M for the L as it is just too short in the sleeves....not a fault of JP...just me! If you're on the fence on this, get off!! It's a real find!
