Was Merle Oberon "Tasmanian?"
At least that's what the Hollywood image machine called her.
(Those swarthy good looks, you know, had to come from somewhere.)
It was perpetrated so you wouldn't know she was a blend of Indian and English parentage.
Turned out spectacularly well for her.
As it does with this skirt.
In fact, Merle used to relax in a sari skirt much like this one.
Oops, "Tasmanian skirt."
Today, Bollywood beauties, like Aishwarya Rai, Hema Malini, Madhuri Dixit, and Rina Dhaka have all fortunately discovered it's not their bloodlines that count; it's those other lines, like these that really matter.
Not from Tasmania Sari Skirt (No. 2529). This 100% silk sari material gets another life in a full wrap skirt with a 2 1/2" waistband. Lower-calf length. Pattern comes from the Vernassi region of India, known for their intricate brocade work.
The Floral "Buti" is woven through the base fabric. The paisley flowers and floral vines are sewn with silver and gold metallic threads. All culminating in a peacock pattern (in case anyone asks, it's the national bird of India) at the hem.
You'll visit Tasmania in this skirt. Remember, it's the opposite season there.
Women's sizes: 2 through 18. Imported.
Color: Golden Tobacco.
