This original hand-painted pub sign comes from East Haybourne Parish in Oxfordshire. As the story goes, the Inn is named after a tall pillar upon which a cross was mounted, but since the Puritan days it has carried a sundial at its apex which has given the name to a neighboring inn.
Thwaites is the leading brewer from the north of England. Daniel Thwaites first began brewing in Blackburn in 1807. The brewery has remained in his family for over five generations.
The sign bears the signature of the artist, Claire Highton, a well known sign and poster artist from Blackburn, Lancashire, coincidentally, also the home of Thwaites.
