If America's best-known metal sculptor was a devotee of brisket and ribs, this is what he might come up with.
A steel fire pit that looks like some kind of modern sculpture; and would, in Mr. Serra's case, command an astronomical price.
Fortunately, this one is crafted by metalworker Shane Larson out in Utah. He wields an artful acetylene torch of his own to create objects that actually do something, and are therefore priced so people can afford them.
(For an item to qualify as “real” art, apparently, it has to have no practical use.)
The response from architects and exterior designers has been strong. Larson now has a crew of artisan-assistants to help him satisfy the demand, and why not?
So did Michelangelo Buonarroti.
Geometric Fire Pit, for contemplation, warmth, or a privileged whole prime beef tenderloin. Stitch-welded steel with natural rust finish, will continue to age for even more character.
It automatically becomes the center of anywhere you put it.
