Last Chance Dept.
West 71st St. and Central Park West.
Whenever I’m here I stop in for some lemonade.
Today, her story revolves around the bramble in Central Park where she discovered her first husband frolicking with his lover, a tall drink of water named Fred.
“It wasn’t a total shock, mind you. They were quite nice together,” she mused. “We all must bow at the feet of fate, Peterman. Sometimes, it’s best to simply chuckle.”
She offered up more lemonade, the likes of which smelled curiously like straight gin.
I enjoy her stories of Sedona the best; about magical excursions through the sandstones; visions of ancient Aztecs and their prognostications; the time she sucked rattlesnake venom out of George Harrison’s arm.
I could never be sure what was true and what was rubbish, as she called it.
It didn’t matter.
The point was, and is always, to chuckle.
