Wicker covered demijohn. A bonbonne, or demijohn, was used for transporting spirits or eau de vie. The glass jar is encased in a protective jacket of woven osier (willow reed), which was applied at the glass factory. Demijohns were in wide use from the 1700’s to the early 1900’s.
