The rose on The Flowers, in addition to its status as the national symbol, clearly refers to the Wars of the Roses. These were a series of civil wars for the throne of England between the houses of Lancaster and York (the “red’ and the “white” roses, respectively). The final victory went to a Lacastrian, Henry Tudor, who defeated the Yorkist king Richard III. Hand painted, double sided with pediment frame.
