“Cruck” construction, an idea borrowed from Medieval monks, employs a “roof tree,” the central beam where the two sloping sides or “crucks” of the roof meet at the top. This is the concept that is illustrated on this Old Roof Tree pub sign. It is hand painted and signed by the artist Claire Highton, a well known poster and sign artist from Blackburn Lancashire. Thwaites Brewery is a regional brewery founded in 1807 by Daniel Thwaites in Eanam Wharf Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Double sided.
