This station lamp is stamped LNER (London & North East Railway), which was one of the "Big Four" railway companies formed during the 1923 Grouping Act in Britain. As such it barely lasted 25 years, but in this time it left a prestigious mark in British railway history. The LNER was famous for its high speed trains but gained a lot of its income from the coal fields of North East England.
The plaque on the lamp has the name of the station on the LNER line, Barnetby, which is a village in North Lincolnshire. The village as it stands today is a direct result of the coming of the railway in 1848 and became a part of the LNER in 1923.
The steel lamp has copper trim and chimney or vent with a large fuel tank and working wick assembly. It has a plaque identifying the manufacturer, "Lamp Manufacturing and Railway Supplies Ltd." England, Ca. 1925.
